Welcome to a latest Marvel SNAP developer update roundup! In this article we will share some of the most popular questions by the community that Second Dinner answered on the official Discord, including questions about the recent balance changes to Angela and Hercules, OTA announcement schedule, which other games SD developers play, and more.

Angela’s recent nerf

Q: Did Angela take the bullet for Thena?
Glenn: No. Angela was adjusted based on her play rate, which dwarfs Thena by comparison even given the Series difference. Angela’s popularity relative to other cards in lower Series was unacceptably high, especially in conjunction with her winrate.

Is Hercules still on the docket for a more involved rework?

Q: On the January 18th OTA, the dev notes for Hercules's previous +1 power buff stated that the team's goal was to "build an interesting move card at 4-cost". Is this change to a 3-cost temporary, to soften the blow of the move resolution change, or is this a shift in the team's perspective on the role Hercules has in the move archetype?
Glenn: Its purpose is to soften the blow, and I personally think it will be temporary. But if it works out, maybe we’ll keep it.

OTA Early Announcement

Q: Why did you do it this time? Will the be a thing you continue to do?
Griffin: Some of the details of the OTA were released early out of our control. Instead of allowing potentially harmful speculation of both where it came from and the entire OTA package, we decided to release them early for clarity. We don't intend to do this regularly.

Why NOT regularly announce card changes ahead of time?

Q: According to Griffin's recent answer (see above), the OTA changes being released ahead of time was a one-off due to some leaks. Why NOT make this a normal thing, to announce changes ahead of time? The earlier the better, so players can make informed choices on whether to buy cards with tokens, pull for cards in spotlights, etc.
Griffin: We appreciate that feedback. I'll pass it along.

Missing Border in the Custom Shop

Q: Is there a limit for specific border in the Custom shop? I bought 5 blue cosmic borders for my Loki deck. I want to build all blue cosmic deck. I just tried buy 6th one for another card and I’m missing it in the shop! Can you please explain why and how it works?
Stephen: It’s a bug that removed Blue Cosmic from the shop. It will be fixed soon.

What games do SD developers play in their free time that aren't snap?

Q: Bonus: if you're a game designer, which games make you say "I wish we had made that" or otherwise inspire you in some way?
Stephen: I play most big releases on all platforms both for fun and to learn more. The games I am playing right now are Baldur's Gate 3, Star Wars Hunters, Squad Busters, Honkai Star Rail, and Marvel Snap! I'm really excited to play Star Wars Outlaws when it comes out soon and want to find time to dabble in the new Diablo 4 season as well.
Bella: I play/run 3 Dungeons and Dragons games a week... so mostly DnD. But also Baldur’s Gate 3, Manor Lords, Pokemon, and Golf with Friends.
Chris: Shadow of the Erdtree will be the end of my free time.
Charlene: Hades (I & II), Balatro, Teamfight Tactics, Stepmania(x)
Addison: Elden Ring DLC AND Bison (finally) coming to SF6 in the same week... it's about to be so over for me.
