Inside you there is one wolf - Fenris Wolf just joined Marvel SNAP as part of the War of the Nine Realms Season, but is Hela's trusty companion a good boy?
Fenris Wolf has been many players' most-anticipated card since its initial reveal, hyping up its synergies with Discard cards, like Moon Knight and Black Bolt, and of course, Shang-Chi. Unfortunately, the newest Series 5 card seems much less flexible than it first appeared and the proper setup and planning to take full advantage of its ability may prove to be too complicated to rely on.
As detailed in our Spotlight Showcase: Fenris Wolf, Annihilus, Werewolf by Night article, Fenris Wolf has been touted as the new Turn 6 boogeyman, forcing opponents to play around its revive ability or gauge whether you're bluffing. Surprisingly, Fenris Wolf's best home at Rank 70 and above is the Discard Archetype, where Gambit or Moon Knight can steal the game, rather than an archetype or deck that relies on Shang. The card's early stats are middling, but strong enough to sit it in Tier B of our Card Tier List with a 5.3% play rate at Rank 70 and above. The By the Numbers Article Series dives into the metrics behind the latest card release to help you decide if the new Series 5 card available in this week’s Spotlight Cache is worth your precious resources. Find out the verdict on Fenris Wolf below.
We’ll be ranking Fenris Wolf based on the following set of parameters:
- We’ll be looking at Fenris Wolf's performance at the Rank 70 and above
- We’ll be considering Fenris Wolf's overall win percentage in these ranks, but also its average cubes and popularity
- Finally, we'll look at which archetypes Fenris Wolf best fits into and how the card performs in the current meta
Our Card Tier List are based on the Average Cubes and Popularity of a card when compared to all other cards in Marvel SNAP.
THE RAW DATA
Fenris Wolf has a +0.11 average cube rate and a 51.1% winrate at Rank 70 and above, lackluster numbers, but high enough to place it in Tier B on the Card Tier List. Outside of Discard, the archetypes Fenris Wolf fits into are underperforming. Its low popularity means the metrics may increase as the play rate goes down.
We'll be watching to see if Fenris Wolf's performance improves as the limited player experimentation begins to slow down. For now, the card's metrics match the winrates and average cube rates of cards playing in a similar space, like Killmonger and Magik.
Remember that these stats will settle over time and this early review consists of 24 hours of data. Be sure to revisit the card stats on our Card Tier List to see where Fenris Wolf lands in terms of power level and popularity.
BEST FENRIS WOLF DECKS
With thousands of games already logged by the Untapped Companion at Rank 70 and above since Fenris Wolf's release, we have a good picture of which decks are working for the latest Series 5 card and which are not. Here are the best-performing options:
The standout here is an established deck that greatly benefits from the dual stipulation on Fenris Wolf's ability: Discard Archetype. By having both discarded and destroyed enemy cards as potential revival targets, Fenris has multiple opportunities and lines to bring back something big while simultaneously flipping the board state in the player's favor. With a +0.52 average cube rate and 59.7% winrate at Rank 70 and above, the deck is performing well, but nothing to write home about. The deck often plays cards like Blade, Morbius and Dracula to capitalize on the various Discard cards in the deck.
Don’t worry if you are missing any of the cards listed, you can always find a deck tailored to your collection on our Marvel SNAP Decks page.
The other top performer is a variation of the Darkhawk Archetype. This version leverages Fenris in the same way the pure Discard deck does, using cards like Moon Knight and Blackbolt to take advantage of its ability.
We also need to not only analyze Fenris Wolf's individual power level, but the archetypes utilizing the card best as well. If we look at the current Marvel SNAP meta, the Discard Archetype is sitting in Tier B with a 56.7% winrate and +0.40 average cube rate using data since the card's release on November 19, 2024 at Rank 70 and above. The most popular deck, however, comes in slightly lower, with a 57.8% winrate and +0.48 cube rate.
DISCARD ARCHETYPE
FINAL THOUGHTS
Is Fenris Wolf worth your resources? Early Review analysis revolves around two dimensions, the card's immediate power level and how strong its archetype is in the current Marvel SNAP meta within its release window.
The raw data shows Fenris Wolf is not living up to the hype. As popularity lowers in the coming weeks, these metrics should only increase as the card is played less for experimentation and by a more skilled class of player. Outside of Discard, decks utilizing Fenris Wolf's ability aren't overperforming in any capacity, despite coming in at Tier B on our Card Tier List. On an archetype level, the Discard Archetype is sitting in Tier B since its release.
