Welcome to another edition of “An Early Review Of,” the series where we analyze the decklists and data behind Marvel SNAP’s latest card, Phastos, to gain a better understanding of how it’s performing in the Meta!
Today, we’ll analyze Phastos, a new Series 5 card introduced during the Celestials’ Finest Season, available in this week’s Spotlight Cache. The important question is: Is Phastos worth your Tokens or Keys? Let's crunch the numbers.

We’ll be ranking Phastos based on the following set of parameters:
  • We’ll be looking at Phastos’s performance at Infinite Rank and above, including a special mention of the Top 50% of the Infinite Rank to get a solid idea of how it performs.
  • We’ll be considering Phastos’ overall win percentage in these ranks, but also its average cubes and popularity.
  • Finally, we will also take a quick look at how the archetype the card best fits performs in the current meta.
Our Tier List rankings are based on the Average Cubes and Popularity of a card when compared to all other cards in Marvel SNAP.

THE RAW DATA

Phastos has an average cube rate of -0.02 at Infinite Rank, which is quite disappointing. It barely improves to +0.01 within the Top 50%.
When studying Phastos’ winrate, we notice a similar story, with a winrate of around 50% across both categories. Players are still experimenting with the card, which is why it has a 4.8% popularity despite its underwhelming stats. We are waiting to see if it gets closer to the +0.10 average Cubes of Sera before we start to pay more attention to it.
For now, Phastos’s stats leave us with the impression that it's a weak card that won't significantly impact the meta unless it receives a buff.
Please keep in mind that these statistics will change over time. This is an early review, so be sure to check back on the card stats and our Card Tier List once things have settled down. This will help you determine where Phastos stands in terms of power level and popularity.

PHASTOS’ BEST DECKS (SO FAR)

So far, the Untapped.gg Companion has recorded 550 different Phastos decks at Top 50% Infinite Rank since the card was released. If you're looking for a deck to use your newly acquired Phastos card, we've gathered a selection of top-performing options for you to consider. Let's take a look at some of the best choices available.

The standout amongst the thousands of games played at the top of the Infinite Rank is Surfer. The deck often plays Surfer, Brood and Absorbing Man which have great synergy with Phastos. The card also finds a place in Thanos’ decks since it has the capacity to buff or discount Thanos’ Stones. Don’t worry if you are missing any of the cards listed, you can always find a deck tailored to your collection on our Marvel SNAP decks page.
We also need to take a step back and analyze not only Phastos' power level, but also the archetype that most frequently plays it. In the current Marvel SNAP meta, Surfer is at the top of Tier B with a 52.3% win rate and +0.17 Avg. Cubes, based on the Top 50% Infinite data since the latest OTA Patch on June 13.

Final Thoughts

Is Phastos worth your Keys or Tokens? That’s the big question. As we’ve mentioned at the beginning of this Early Review, the analysis revolves around two dimensions, power level and how strong its archetype is in the current Marvel SNAP meta.
According to the raw data, Phastos doesn't seem to have a significant impact, so it's unlikely to change the Marvel SNAP metagame in the near future. Surfer has consistently been ranked in Tier B for the past few days. While Phastos' addition could potentially enhance its performance, it doesn't appear to be essential. It seems that Phastos isn't a necessary card for competitive play. At most, it adds some variety to your games by changing power and cost at random, creating different play patterns for each match.

But what do you think? Is Phastos just a fun card? Will the upcoming releases bring enough support to Phastos to make the Surfer archetype a powerhouse?
