The Spider Family has added another member to their ranks, but does Araña have what it takes to hold her own in Marvel SNAP?
Early stats are in and Araña isn't making a very big splash as her release has been hampered by significant buffs to the Hela Archetype and Bounce Archetype. The By the Numbers Article Series dives into the numbers behind the latest card release to help you decide if the new Series 5 card available in this week’s Spotlight Caches is worth your precious resources. Find out the verdict on Araña below.
We’ll be ranking Araña based on the following set of parameters:
- We’ll be looking at Araña’s performance at the Rank 70 and above
- We’ll be considering Araña’s overall win percentage in these ranks, but also its average cubes and popularity
- Finally, we'll look at which archetypes Araña best fits into and how the card performs in the current meta
Our Card Tier List are based on the Average Cubes and Popularity of a card when compared to all other cards in Marvel SNAP.
The Raw Data
Araña has a +0.04 average cube rate at Rank 70 and above, placing it right in the middle of Tier B on the Card Tier Rankings, despite what may look like poor stats. The card's low 49.2% average winrate is being bogged down by a surge in popularity, with Araña being played in 12.4% of decks since its release on September 17, 2024, detailed in our Spotlight Cache Showcase: Arana, Sage, Ms. Marvel.
The fact of the matter is the Move Archetype, despite having a 10.3% popularity rate, is putting out poor metrics, showing a flat 0 average cube rate and 49.0% winrate at Rank 70 and above. Much like Madame Web, Araña shines in decks that deviate from our Move, such as the Phoenix Force Archetype or even Galactus Archetype, where the card serves a similar purpose as Ghost-Spider, Shuri or Arnim Zola - cards that let you either buff or pivot your game plan to a different location. We'll continue to watch and see if Araña's performance increase as player experimentation tapers off in the coming weeks and more refined lists come out.
For now, Araña's metrics match the winrates and average cube rates of cards playing in a similar space, like Iron Heart, Hulkbuster and Deathlok.
Remember that these stats will settle over time and this early review consists of 24 hours of data. Be sure to revisit the card stats on our Card Tier List to see where Araña lands in terms of power level and popularity.
Araña’s Best Decks
With thousands of games already logged by the Untapped Companion at Rank 70 and above since Araña's release, we have good picture of which decks are working for the latest Series 5 card and which are not. Here are the best-performing options:
While the Move Archetype is struggling in Tier D on our Meta Tier List, Araña is bringing the stats of deck's with a pure Move composition above the archetype average, the standout here utilizing Madame Web, Hercules and even Spider-Man 2099 to keep opponents guessing. The deck is putting up a low +0.20 average cube rate, but a 56.6% winrate. The deck is also playing cards like Human Torch, Dagger and Vulture, which all put out explosive power with the right maneuvers. If you are missing any of the cards listed, don't worry - you can always find a deck tailored to your collection on our Marvel SNAP Decks page.
The other top performer is a variation of the Destroy Archetype, utilizing both Araña and Hulkbuster to potentially buff Deadpool, X-23 or even Nimrod to simultaneously maintain a strong board presence and juice up a huge Knull for a finisher. The decks share similar average winrates, but Destroy pulls ahead with a slightly higher average cube rate.
We also need to not only analyze Araña's individual power level, but also the archetypes utilizing the card best. As previously stated, the Move Archetype is sitting in Tier D with a 49.0% winrate and 0 average cube rate using data since the card's release on September 17, 2024 at Rank 70 and above. The most popular deck, however, has even lower stats, with a 45.9% winrate and -0.11 cube rate.
MOVE ARCHETYPE
Final Thoughts
Is Araña worth your resources? Early Review analysis revolves around two dimensions, the card's immediate power level and how strong its archetype is in the current Marvel SNAP meta within its release window.
The raw data shows Araña is putting out poor numbers. As popularity lowers in the coming weeks, these metrics may increase as the card finds use outside of Move as a combo piece or tech wildcard inclusion. On an archetype level, the Move Archetype is sitting in Tier D since the card's release.
