Scarlet Spider may have the looks, but does he have the moves? Here's our Early Review of the latest Marvel SNAP release.
Early stats are in and Scarlet Spider hasn't been able to find footing in the current meta, held back by significant buffs to the Hela Archetype and the subsequent rise in Clog Archetype. The By the Numbers Article Series dives into the numbers behind the latest card release to help you decide if the new Series 5 card available in this week’s Spotlight Caches is worth your precious resources. Find out the verdict on Scarlet Spider below.

We’ll be ranking Scarlet Spider based on the following set of parameters:
  • We’ll be looking at Scarlet Spider's performance at the Rank 70 and above
  • We’ll be considering Scarlet Spider's overall win percentage in these ranks, but also its average cubes and popularity
  • Finally, we'll look at which archetypes Scarlet Spider best fits into and how the card performs in the current meta
Our Card Tier List are based on the Average Cubes and Popularity of a card when compared to all other cards in Marvel SNAP.

The Raw Data

Scarlet Spider has a -0.15 average cube rate at Rank 70 and above, placing it at Tier D on the Card Tier Rankings. The card's low 46.7% average winrate isn't looking hot either. Despite being the latest release, we aren't seeing a surge in play rate either, with its popularity falling to 2.1% since release on September 23, 2024, detailed in our Spotlight Cache Showcase: Scarlet Spider, White Widow, Skaar.
The sad truth is decks that utilize Scarlet Spider efficiently at the moment just aren't keeping up with the rest of the meta. Its best deck, a variation of the War Machine Archetype, comes close, but ends up being a worse version of the best performing iteration at Rank 70 and above. Using more Scarlet Spider-centric decks, utilizing cards like Namora or Gwenpool, are often stopped in their tracks by Cosmo or Alioth, as you're often not ahead on the board to get in front of these counters and your game plan is heavily telegraphed. We'll continue to watch and see if Scarlet Spider's performance increases as player experimentation tapers off in the coming weeks and more refined lists come out.
For now, Scarlet Spider's metrics match the winrates and average cube rates of cards playing in a similar space, like Mister Fantastic and Omega Red.
Remember that these stats will settle over time and this early review consists of 24 hours of data. Be sure to revisit the card stats on our Card Tier List to see where Scarlet Spider's lands in terms of power level and popularity.

Scarlet Spider’s Best Decks

With thousands of games already logged by the Untapped Companion at Rank 70 and above since Scarlet Spider's release, we have good picture of which decks are working for the latest Series 5 card and which are not. Here are the best-performing options:
The War Machine Archetype has moved up to Tier A since our last Meta Report, but Scarlet Spider isn't bringing more to the deck. It's includes a small move package in Araña, Ghost-Spider and Dagger for a bit of power, but relies mostly on Storm, War Machine and Legion to scam and lock opponent's out of Turn 6. The deck is putting up a low +0.32 average cube rate and a 53.5% winrate. The best iteration, utilizing Cosmo and Blink as a result of the meta, puts our a winrate 7% higher than the version using Scarlet Spider, with a +0.09 higher average cube rate. If you are missing any of the cards listed, don't worry - you can always find a deck tailored to your collection on our Marvel SNAP Decks page.
The other top performer, a variation on the Thena Archetype, looks like it may utilize the new card better, but is putting out even weaker stats. The deck uses the Kitty Pryde/Angela/Thena package for high power output with a Gwenpool to buff Scarlet Spider. The War Machine deck pulls out ahead here, as this is just not the meta for Thena.
We also need to not only analyze Scarlet Spider's individual power level, but also the archetypes utilizing the card best. As previously stated, the War Machine Archetype is sitting in Tier A with a 54.6% winrate and +0.29 average cube rate using data since the card's release on September 23, 2024 at Rank 70 and above. The most popular deck, however, has a higher 55.1% winrate and lower +0.29 cube rate, indicating the telegraphed plays give opponents ample time to retreat for low cube losses.

Final Thoughts

Is Scarlet Spider worth your resources? Early Review analysis revolves around two dimensions, the card's immediate power level and how strong its archetype is in the current Marvel SNAP meta within its release window.
Early data shows Scarlet Spider is putting out poor numbers. With popularity already low, its not likely stats will improve with further play rate decline. On an archetype level, the War Machine Archetype is sitting in Tier A since the card's release, but its best iterations do not use Scarlet Spider.
