Welcome to the first Spotlight Cache Showcase of the Marvel SNAP September Amazing Spider-Season. In this article series, we review the contents of upcoming Spotlight Caches and decide if this is a week worth your resources or not.
To kick of the Amazing Spider-Season, we have the new Series 5 card Silver Sable appearing alongside Series 5 US Agent and Series 5 Mockingbird.
SILVER SABLE – From Symkaria with Love
Silver Sable joins Marvel SNAP as part of the Amazing Spider-Season. It is a 1-Cost, 1-Power card with the ability On Reveal: Steal 2 Power from the top card of your opponent's deck. Its Affliction effect resembles other cards you might be familiar with such as Hazmat, Scorpion and Spider-Woman.
Silver Sable is the first outwardly strong 1-Cost card to release in some time (sorry, Hydra Bob). Filling a similar disruptive role as Spider-Ham, Silver Sable is a powerful tool to drop on Turn 1 or weave in between turns when you have extra energy - the card's ability doesn't diminish much in later turns and remains valuable throughout the game. The card's low cost lends itself to archetypes that can utilize its effect multiple times, like the Bounce Archetype. Similarly, the Clog Archetype gains a powerful new tool for its Affliction game plan and powering up Ajax.
Silver Sable will find a home in a few archetypes and make a name for itself as a premiere 1-Cost card. Nico Minoru and Nebula might still be better picks in some decks, but wherever a deck values Spider-Ham, Iceman or similar cheap disruption, Silver Sable is now a strong consideration.
PROJECTED RANKING
US AGENT – A Hero to Defend this Country
US Agent is currently in Tier C of our Card Tier List, having both a barely positive cube rate and winrate, while being played in 1.1% of decks at Rank 70 and above. US Agent is most commonly played in the Clog Archetype, where it synergizes well with Luke Cage, Man-Thing and Ajax.
US Agent shines best in a power slam meta - one where decks dropping multiple high-cost, high-power cards are running rampant. Unfortunately, the cards in the Amazing Spider-Season are emphasizing the Move Archetype and Bounce Archetype, both of which focus on lower cost cards. US Agent may not be as useful this month, but the card remains a powerful tool to have at your disposal, should the need for it come again.
RANKING
MOCKINGBIRD – “Mock, YEAH…”
The final card in this week’s Spotlight Cache is Mockingbird, currently sitting in Tier A with both a positive cube rate and winrate, while being played in a whopping 15.8% of decks at Rank 70 and above, due in part to the popularity of Arishem. Although Arishem is inflating Mockingbird's numbers, the card flourishes in a number of decks, and has been a powerhouse since its release, even after a nerf. Any deck that utilizes or produces tokens includes Mockingbird, including the Zoo Archetype and the recent Tempo Archetype featuring Attuma.
Mockingbird has consistently been a top performing card since its release and should be a pick up for any player missing it. The card is near-irreplaceable in the decks that use it - the very decks that are usually at the top of the meta each week. The numbers don't lie - Mockingbird is a must-have.
RANKING
Spotlight Variants
Each week, there's a chance you open exclusive Spotlight Cache Variants for the featured cards. These variants only appear once you own all three featured cards, so you’ll need plenty of Spotlight Keys if you want one. Spotlight Cache exclusive variants will not be available in-game again until one full year has passed following their release.
The featured artist for the Amazing Spider-Season is In-Hyuk Lee, so we should expect all Spotlight Variants for new cards, such as Silver Sable, to get In-Hyuk Lee depictions. US Agent receives a portrayal by Skan and Mockingbird receives a new variant from Jelena Djurdjevic!
Final Thoughts
This week’s Spotlight Caches include two Tier A cards (one projected ranking), which is a rare sighting. Even with US Agent currently in Tier C, the first week of the Amazing Spider-Season is a must-open for most players looking to catch up or grow their collection. Silver Sable is bound to be a premiere 1-Cost option and you should consider using tokens if you don't plan on using keys this week, depending on your resource reserves.
Remember to consider the upcoming Spotlight Caches. Next week we’ll see Madame Web release alongside Alioth and Silk - another great value week.
But what do you think? Are you using Spotlight Keys to get Silver Sable or saving it for future weeks? Let us know your thoughts over at @UntappedSNAP on Twitter/X. Alternatively, come and chat with the wider Marvel SNAP Community on our Discord Server!
