Welcome to the Untapped.gg Marvel SNAP Meta Report (Ranked) for the week of August 30, 2024. The Meta Report is a weekly article series where we review the best Ranked decks and strategies in the top ranks of Marvel SNAP.

Marvel SNAP Tier List

Uncertainty rears its ugly head as the polarizing OTA Balance Update - August 29 has the Marvel SNAP meta game scrambling to pick up the pieces. Two archetypes have not only survived since the Meta Report (Ranked) - August 22, but flourished in the face of change. Both the Darkhawk Archetype and Patriot Archetype, both of which had fallen to Tier B last week, have risen to the top of Tier A as players experiment with newly buffed cards and adjust to the nerfs. The Darkhawk Archetype remains unchanged, taking the top spot of Tier A with a +0.33 average cube rate and 56.6% winrate. The Patriot Archetype isn't far behind, with a +0.32 average cube rate and 54.7% winrate. Both archetypes are sharing a similar usage rate, with a 3.1% and 3.6% popularity, respectively, which means you're still more likely to run into the Arishem Archetype (8.1%), Destroy Archetype (10.2%) and even Discard Archetype (5.2%).

Diving deeper into the data, we can see Darkhawk decks are versatile, with a number of ways to build a functional list. Amongst the archetype, only three of the most commonly played cards, including Darkhawk, Korg and Rock Slide are present in 99% of decks. The most popular Darkhawk deck sports a 61.2% winrate and +0.49 average cube rate - well above the archetype average.

The Patriot Archetype also remains a powerful option post-OTA. The archetype's clear and simple gameplan provides a consistency often lost during OTA experimentation. Sandman still shuts down most Turn 6 setups and strategies and Ongoing counters like Enchantress and Rogue continue to be ignored in the current meta. Even without the Sandman setup, many decks struggle to deal with the power output of Patriot and Ultron. When all else fails, Brood and Absorbing Man is a powerful backup plan.

Down in Tier B, we find a few archetypes struggling to keep their footing, but maintaining positive average cube rates, including the Negative Archetype and Tribunal Archetype. The Sandman Archetype has plummeted in popularity, but maintains a high winrate post OTA. Negative was directly hit by the latest nerfs, with Taskmaster moving up to a 6-Cost. Despite the deck's signature combo being weakened and a sub-50% winrate, disciplined snapping and retreating helps the deck hold on to the positive cube rate. A similar story can be seen in the Tribunal Archetype, where knowing the in's and out's of the deck keeps the cube rate positive, even with heavy retreating bringing the winrate below 50%.

To have an edge in the Marvel SNAP meta you must understand each and every tool both at your and your opponent's disposal. By studying the Card Tier List and checking the most popular cards each week, you'll have a better grasp on what to expect in any given match.

Cassandra Nova returns to the top spot of the Card Tier List after losing out to Shang-Chi last week, now with a 19.9% popularity rate. Out of the nine most popular cards, only two are tech cards - Shang-Chi and Killmonger. If your deck is particularly susceptible to these, you may want to adjust your game plan or even which deck to play.
This doesn’t mean that decks susceptible to Shang or Killmonger are unplayable - your opponent still needs to draw the card and find the right time to play it to be impactful. Just keep them in mind as you evaluate your opponent's deck to elevate your performance by a significant margin.
Next week the brand new Symbiotic Season launches with Symbiote Spider-Man alongside Silver Sable, US Agent and Mockingbird. Be prepared to face players experimenting, as we see a spike in popularity on spotlight cache days.
