We’ll be analyzing Hela's performance across a number of parameters:
  • We’ll be looking at Hela’s metrics at both Top 50% and 10% Infinite
  • We’ll be looking at Hela’s overall win percentage in these ranks, as well as its average cubes and popularity
  • Finally, we'll look at the archetypes using Hela best and how the card is performing in the current meta
Our Card Tier List are based on the Average Cubes and Popularity of a card when compared to all other cards in Marvel SNAP.

CARD ANALYSIS

Hela has a +0.20 average cube rate and 53.1% winrate at Top 50% Infinite. The card has been in Tier A or Tier B on the Card Tier Rankings since the before the Marvel SNAP Patch Notes — September 17, which included the Hellcow Activate rework, and even after the Marvel SNAP OTA Balance Update - September 26, 2024, which attempted to nerf Hela. The card is currently sitting at a 6.1% popularity.
There is a different story at Top 10% Infinite, where Hela has a lower +0.18 average cube rate and 52.7% winrate. At Top 10%, the card is sitting in Tier B with a 5.6% play rate, with cards like Cosmo and Alioth - its direct counters - far above it in Tier A.
The stats for these cards are staggering. Cosmo has an average cube rate of +0.16 and winrate of 52.4%, overall weaker numbers than Hela, while Alioth has a +0.38 average cube rate and 51.9% winrate. The difference is that these other top cards account for 21.5% meta each at Top 10% Infinite. With such strong and prevalent opposition, it seems Hela has quite the problem dodging its counters.

DECK ANALYSIS

ARCHETYPE ANALYSIS

notion image
The archetype utilizing the Hela best is the titular Hela Archetype, which is sitting in Tier A with a +0.26 average cube rate and 53.5% winrate at Top 10% Infinite. The archetype is accompanied by Surfer Archetype and Agent Venom Archetype, both of which serve as counters to Hela. The archetype is fairly popular, accounting for 5.1% of the meta.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Hela is putting out solid numbers at both Top 50% and 10% Infinite with a play rate of 5.1%, indicating that while the archetype is susceptible to counters, they're doing little to push it out of Tier A, even with high popularity.
Looking past the numbers, its clear that Hela feels bad to lose to because of the solitaire-nature of the deck. The play lines rarely interact with the opponent or locations and playing just two or three cards is often enough to win quite decisively. The counters work when they do, but rely on draw and the predictability of Hela, which isn't always cut and dry.
That isn't to say the counters don't work, as Surfer and Agent Venom, decks that utilize Cosmo, are both holding their own in the meta, at Tier A.
Do you agree? Is Hela the meta tyrant we're all making it out to be? Or are people just ignoring the counters? Let us know your thoughts over at @UntappedSNAP on Twitter/X. Alternatively, come and chat with the wider Marvel SNAP Community on our Discord Server!
